It’s fair to say that life has thrown all of us a giant curveball as of late. Global pandemics, earthquakes, home-schooling, and economic uncertainty has disrupted our day-to-day routines leaving too many of us feeling like life is spiraling out of control. We can fight back! If you really want to take your health—physical, mental, and emotional—into your own hands (and home!), it all starts with creating healthy, sustainable habits and mastering the new “now.” Creating healthy habits in your home is more doable now than ever before. With social distancing in full swing, we now have the time to take our kitchen IQ’s to the next level and make our health a priority! Here are our top five tips to raise that food IQ and really start to become a master of your kitchen and your health!

  1.  Nutrition

The most important thing you can do for your health right now is to focus on healthy eating habits! The foods you put into your body will absolutely make or break your health bank. Eating healthy doesn’t have to mean bland or boring, either! We are sharing an entire weekly menu planner, grocery shopping list, and 15 deliciously healthy recipes free of charge to prove it to you: (https://cleansimpleeats.com/pages/free-week) to download our app and try it out for 7 days for free. Creating healthy eating habits can seem overwhelming at first so let’s break it down to keep things simple.

  • Make a plan. Having a solid weekly menu plan in place is crucial. Knowing what’s on the “menu” for the week will help keep you and your family organized. This menu planner will take the stress out of the “what’s for dinner?” question we’ve all heard a million times.
  • Create a weekly shopping list that will ensure every single item you put into your grocery cart will have a specific purpose.
  • Get your family involved in making these healthy recipes and enjoy eating them together!
  1.   Exercise

Exercise is also an important component when it comes to overall health. Movement each day is so important, especially right now, to help all of us in combatting anxiety and stress. It also helps in boosting immunity, regulating hormones, body composition, self-confidence, sleep patterns, and overall feelings of wellness. With gyms closed at the moment, many are turning to social media and the web for simple “at home” workouts that can be done with little or no equipment. There are many different resources out there so pick one that works for you, but make exercise a priority. You will feel a huge difference in how you feel, think, act and react.

  1.   Sleep

Sleep is all too often undervalued. If you aren’t getting enough sleep (7-9 hours) and/or your sleep quality is poor, you’re missing the boat. Getting enough sleep gives us the mental capacity and strength to take on the tasks at hand which currently include dealing with physical, emotional, and mental stress, along with challenges associated with work, family, and home-schooling, and the anxiety many feel with regard to earthquakes and a global pandemic.

One of the most powerful ways we can manage stress is by making sure we are getting enough quality sleep. When we are sleeping, we are repairing, rebuilding and rebooting. Sleep also helps to regulate hormone levels, allow the muscles and the brain to recover and have you putting your feet on the ground each morning ready to take on the day!

  1.   Mindset

This is a factor that often gets overlooked. Approaching each day with gratitude and intention can make all the difference in the world. First, think about the day you want to have. How will it look? How will you feel? How will you act? Your life will begin to take shape out of what you are creating in your head! There’s a lot going on right now that just simply isn’t in our control. Make an effort each day to control the things that you can and let go of the anxiety and fear of the unknown and unprecedented. That fear isn’t doing anyone any good.

  1.   Consistency

We’ve said this a million times to anyone that is willing to listen: consistency over time will always yield results. ALWAYS. Find, create and work on instilling healthy habits that will serve you well not just for today, but for the rest of your life—and, leave you feeling GREAT about it! Your consistent effort over time will gradually build into hard-to-break healthy habits that will keep you in the driver’s seat when it comes to your health.

Your health and the health of your family, friends and those in your community should always be top priority. Take the next few weeks and do your best to incorporate some, if not all, of these tips into your daily routine. Remember, it’s about progress and consistency, not perfection. We are strong. We will get through this thing together!
